The Drake University men's basketball team returns to the Knapp Center Saturday evening to host UMKC at 7 p.m. The contest will be broadcast locally via Mediacom MC22 and online courtesy of the The Valley On ESPN3.
Tickets for Saturday's game are available for as low as $10 with the ticket office also offering a ticket swap promotions. Fans who attend either the Drake football or volleyball games earlier in the day can redeem their ticket stub for a $5 men's basketball ticket. Football hosts Dayton at 1 p.m. while volleyball takes on Bradley at 3 p.m.
The Bulldogs return to their homecourt with a 1-1 record this young season following Monday's 79-74 overtime loss at Tulane. Sophomore guard Reed Timmer (New Berlin, Wis.) has led the team to date with 19 points in each of the Bulldogs' first two games on combined 14-of-22 shooting. Underneath the basket, the team's center tandem of Jacob Enevold (Lunderskov, Denmakr) and Dominik Olejniczak (Torun, Poland) have hauled in a combined 30 rebounds in two games.
UMKC already has three games under its belt with one win, over William Jewell, to its credit. On Tuesday evening, the 'Roos lost in overtime at Omaha, 95-89. LaVell Boyd leads the team with 17.7 points per game and has hit 12 of his 18 three-point attempts to date. Point guard Martez Harrison already has 23 assists to rank sixth in the nation in total assists.
The 'Roos are coached by former Drake assistant Kareem Richardson. Richardson was on the Bulldogs' staff from 2008-11.
Following Saturday's game, the Bulldogs will return immediately to the road, leaving campus Sunday morning to take part in the Gulf Coast Showcase, Nov. 23-25, in Estero, Fla. The Bulldogs will open the tournament against WKU on Nov. 23 at 5 p.m. The Bulldogs will then take on either Central Michigan or Weber State on Nov. 24. The three-day event concludes on Nov. 25 against one of the remaining teams in the eight-team field. All contests will be broadcast on BD Global Sports YouTube page here
