The Drake University men's basketball team returns to road this weekend to face Nevada as part of the MWC/MVC Challenge. Saturday's tipoff against the Wolf Pack is scheduled for 6 p.m. CST.
Currently the Mountain West has a 4-3 lead over the Missouri Valley heading into this weekend's game. However, Drake leads the all-time series with the Wolf Pack, 4-0. Saturday will be just the second meeting between the two programs since 1969.
The Bulldogs are aiming to snap a two-game losing streak after falling at home to DePaul, 74-71, Wednesday evening. Sophomore Reed Timmer (New Berlin, Wis.) led the Bulldogs in that loss with a career-high 30 points on 7-of-11 shooting.
The 30-point outing marked the fourth-time this season that Timmer has scored 20 or more points and the seventh time a Bulldog has done so this season. Last season, a Drake player scored 20 or more points just nine times all season.
From the arc, the Bulldogs currently rank 16th nationally in three-point shooting at 41.7 percent. The Bulldogs have finished in the top 15 in the nation in three-point shooting each of the last three seasons. Graham Woodward (Edina, Minn.) ranks 18th nationally in three-point shooting accuracy at 50 percent.
Nevada comes into Saturday's game with a 6-3 record under first-year head coach Eric Musselman. The team has scored 80 or more points four times this season and ranks 42nd nationally in scoring at 83.0 points per game. In their last outing, the Wolf Pack throttled Fresno Pacific, 119-70.
Nevada is led by Marqueze Coleman's 17.4 points per game while AJ West nearly averages a double-double with 9.8 points and 8.2 rebounds per game to help the Wolf Pack to a +7.9 advantage in rebounding this season.
Following Saturday's game, the Bulldogs will have a week off for finals before taking on Iowa in the Hy-Vee Big Four Classic at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines on Dec. 19.
