MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Drake University women's tennis team suffered its second loss of the season as the Bulldogs fell to 70th-ranked Minnesota, 5-2, on Friday (Feb. 20) at the Baseline Tennis Center.
The Gophers (5-3) edged out the Bulldogs (7-2) in doubles to take a 1-0 lead. Minnesota continued its momentum in singles play as the Gophers claimed three consecutive victories at No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6.
Junior Mariel Ante (Riverside, Calif.) came back from a set down to win Drake's first point, 6-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5) at No. 1. The Bulldogs' final victory of the night came from Nell Boyd (Arlington Heights, Ill.), who also over came back from a one-set deficit to win, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 4.
Drake's schedule doesn't get any easier as the Bulldogs face off with No. 46 Dartmouth at 11 a.m. on Saturday (Feb. 21) at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis.
