Women's Tennis Welcomes Iowa State, UMKC and Wyoming

DES MOINES, Iowa – Drake University women's tennis team welcomes Iowa State and UMKC on Friday (March 6) and Wyoming on Sunday (March 8) to the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.

The Bulldogs will face off with Iowa State at 10 a.m. and finish their Friday against UMKC at 4 p.m. Drake will wrap up its weekend on Sunday versus Wyoming at 9 a.m.

The Bulldogs haven't dropped a match at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center with a 7-0 record. Last weekend, Drake beat St. John's, 4-3, on Feb. 27 and swept UW-Milwaukee, 7-0, on Feb. 28. 

The Bulldogs are at their best when they win the doubles point and are 9-1 after taking the first point of the match. Drake's most consistent spots in singles are at No. 3 and No. 6 with a combined record of 19-5. Maddie Johnson (Onalska, Wis.) leads the way at the three-spot with a 5-2 mark, while Lea Kozulic (Varazdin, Croatia) is 4-0 at No. 6.

Iowa State enters Friday's dual with a 3-5 record and has dropped four of its last five matches. The Cyclones swept UW-Milwaukee, 7-0, on March 1 in their last time out. Drake and ISU meet last year in Ames and the Bulldogs topped the Cyclones 5-2.

UMKC is members of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) and comes to Des Moines with a 4-5 mark. The Kangaroos are winless on the road with a 4-0 record.

Wyoming has loss three of its last five matches and has last played on Feb. 21. The Cowgirls last time out was a 7-0 victory over Illinois State in Lincoln, Neb. Wyoming will play Iowa State on Saturday before taking on the Bulldogs on Sunday.

Drake next time on the courts will be Tuesday, March 17 against Columbia in Las Vegas.
