DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University women's tennis team toughed out a 5-2 victory over Wyoming on Sunday (March 8) at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.

The Bulldogs claimed the doubles point with victories from Nell Boyd (Arlington Heights, Ill.) and Maddie Johnson (Onalaska, Wis.) at No. 2 and Mariel Ante (Riverside, Calif.) and Adrienne Jensen (Iowa City, Iowa) at No. 1.

Wyoming managed to tie at 1 with a win at No. 1 singles. Drake answered with a pair of solid victories from Johnson at No. 3 (6-2, 6-1) and Summer Brills (North Oaks, Minn.) at No. 2 (6-2, 6-3) to gain a 3-1 lead. Jensen secured Drake's fourth point with a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 5, while Kozulic scored the Bulldog's final point with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) victory.

“We came out this weekend with a mission to be tough and accept any adversity that would come our way. Each person contributed to our success this weekend,” said Drake head coach Sadhaf Pervez.

“We came out this weekend with a mission to be tough and accept any adversity that would come our way. Each person contributed to our success this weekend, and when the match got tight in singles and doubles we kept our composure,” said Drake head coach Sadhaf Pervez.

Drake improves to 12-3 on the season and won't return to the courts until Tuesday, March 17 in Las Vegas when the Bulldogs face off with 55th-ranked Columbia.

"We are looking forward to a week of recovery and to start the outdoor season. Columbia is a very well coached team with blue chip kids from the top to the bottom of their lineup. We will have to play like a team in order to pull off an upset," said Pervez.
