DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University women's tennis team has signed high school standout Kenya Williams (Lauderhill, Fla.) to a 2015 National Letter of Intent, head coach Sadhaf Pervez announced on Monday, April 20.
“The team and I are very excited for Kenya to be coming this fall. She is such an amazing person to be around, and we are very proud that she is officially a Bulldog,” said Pervez. “Kenya and her family fit in perfectly in what we are trying to achieve at Drake.”
Williams is rated as a five-star prospect and is tabbed 59th the nation and seventh best in Florida by TennisRecruiting.net. She played in the qualifying round for the 2014 the Metropolia Orange Bowl International Championship, which only welcomes the top juniors in the world to compete at the prestigious tournament.
“Kenya's will to fight and grind at this past year's Orange Bowl, assured me that she would fit in with our team. She is a fighter with a big game and has been competing at a very high level,” said Pervez.
Williams has earned a couple of wins over top ranked juniors this year and holds a 1,315 International Tennis Federation ranking. She trains at the Saviano Tennis Academy, which is one of the best tennis academies in the country.
