Clausen Receives MVC Leadership & Service Award

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Drake University women's golfer Katie Clausen received the Missouri Valley Leadership & Service Award on Tuesday as one of 10 honorees selected by MVC Commissioner Doug Elgin from the 2014-15 spring season.

Clausen, a junior from Hinton, Iowa, garnered the Drake CBPA Outstanding Junior-of-the-Year Award earlier this month. She has been named National Golf Coaches Association Academic All-American the last two years, and has also been named to the President's List three times and Dean's List twice. Clausen has volunteered in a number of community service projects, including Habitat for Humanity, Principal Charity Classic, Seed of Success, First Tee of Greater Des Moines, and the Food Truck and Bell Ringing for the Salvation Army.

In order to be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be in good academic standing, must demonstrate good citizenship through good sportsmanship and significant community service, and must participate in a sport, during the season of recognition.  The Valley will recognize 10 student-athletes three times annually (fall, winter, spring), for a total of 30 honorees.  Institutions select their MVC Leadership & Service Award honorees.
