Johnson Collects Capital One Academic All-District Honors

DES MOINES, Iowa – Drake University women's tennis junior Maddie Johnson (Onalaska, Wis.) was named first team Capital One Academic All-District women's at-large for the second consecutive year on Thursday, May 14.

Johnson is a psychology major and holds a perfect 4.0 GPA in the classroom. On the court, she posted a 53-22 combined singles/doubles record, while registering a 17-5 singles record during the spring campaign. She was also named to the All-Missouri Valley Conference select team.

Earlier this week, Johnson was awarded the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region Arthur Ashe Sportsmanship and Leadership Award.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable).

Johnson advances to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month. Award winners will be announced on June 11.
