INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Coming off two wins and a tournament title last weekend at the 2015 ProRehab Aces Classic, the Drake men's soccer team returns to the state of Indiana as the Bulldogs play at the Butler Bulldogs on Saturday at 12 p.m. CST.
Drake finished with wins over Air Force and Belmont in Evansville to claim the tournament title. The Bulldogs edged the Bears, 1-0, before knocking off the Falcons, 2-1, to win their first tournament title since the 2008 season.
Senior Alec Bartlett (Overland Park, Kan.) was named the tournament's Defensive Most Valuable Player while Bartlett, junior Ben LeMay (Hugo, Minn.), junior Mueng Sunday (Coralville, Iowa) and senior Kyle Whigham (Overland Park, Kan.) were each named to the all-tournament team.
LeMay scored the lone goal in the Belmont win while junior James Grunert (Muskego, Wis.) scored late to break a 1-1 tie and defeat Air Force, 2-1.
Butler is 2-0-1 this season with wins over Wisconsin and IUPUI and its tie was at UIC. Junior David Goldsmith leads Butler in goals scored with two.
Saturday's match between Butler and Drake will be the first-ever meeting.
Drake returns to Cownie Soccer Complex next week as the Bulldogs host two games with UMKC on Sept. 15 and DePaul on Sept. 19. Both will have 7 p.m. start times.
