DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University women's tennis team opened the 2015 fall season by hosting the Roger Knapp Invite on Friday at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
Mariel Ante and Mela Jaglarz are the only two Bulldogs playing this weekend.
Ante, the No. 2 seed in the flight “A” singles bracket, throttled Green Bay's Stephanie Londre 6-0, 6-3 in the opening round. Jaglarz advanced to the quarterfinals of the flight “D” singles bracket, as she cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Upper Iowa's Breanna Helchet and a 6-3, 6-2 win over Green Bay's Maria Neff.
Ante and Jaglarz teamed in doubles play and won their first round match 6-2 over GB's Berg/Hermann before falling to South Dakota's Kranendonk/Palvolviel 6-3 in the quarterfinals.
Ante will face off against North Dakota's Lacey Sprinkel on Saturday, while Jaglarz will play against Northern Illinois' Michelle Erasmus for a spot to the semifinals.
