Track & Field To Clash With In-State Foes At Big Four Duals

Bulldogs ready to race against Iowa, Iowa State and UNI

The Drake University men's and women's track and field teams will face three in-state rivals this Saturday in the annual Big Four Duals on the Harry Hoak Track inside Iowa State's Lied Recreation Center.

The meet will feature competitors from all four Division I Iowa universities with competitors from Drake, Iowa, Iowa State and UNI.

"We are excited for this Big Four meet to see where our team is," said Drake head coach Natasha Kaiser-Brown "This will be the first time the full team is assembled and we're getting everyone on the same page."

The meet is the third indoor contest for the Bulldogs this season after strong showings at both the SDSU Holiday Invitational and the Holiday Inn Invitational last weekend in Lincoln Neb. At the Holiday Inn Invitational, the teams combined for 27 top-ten finishes. Senior Emma Huston (Des Moines, Iowa) won the mile with a personal best time of 4:55.69 to record the sixth fastest time in school history. In the hurdles, sophomore standout Mary Young (Urbandale, Iowa) continued her indoor season with a season-best time of 8.52 in the 60-meter hurdles.  Young's time was the fastest collegiate time with only professional Sharika Nelvis finishing ahead of Young. Nelvis, a former NCAA Champion, owned the fastest 60-meter hurdle time in the world last season.

The Bulldogs also had six first place finishes at the SDSU Holiday Invitational which included Rai Ahmed-Green's (Irvine, Calif.) track record in the 300 meters with a time of 39.98 and sophomore Hudson Priebe's (Chamberlain, S.D) 300-meter hurdle win with a time of 37.87 that shattered the men's facility record.

At last season's Big Four Duals, the men's team picked up a 75-68 win over Iowa State while the women also picked up a win against the Cyclones 72-61.
Following this weekend's meet, the Bulldogs will visit UNI for the Jack Jennett Invitational Jan. 29-30.
