ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Drake University junior Reed Timmer (New Berlin, Wis.) has been named to the preseason All-Missouri Valley Conference Men's Basketball Team, the league announced Tuesday, Oct. 25, during its annual media day.
Timmer was one of 10 MVC standouts honored as he earned a position on the preseason All-MVC second team. The guard is the conference's top returning scorer after averaging 16.8 points per game in 2015-16. He finished his sophomore campaign with 520 points, the 15th most in a season in Drake history while shooting 46.2 percent from the floor, 40.4 percent from the three-point arc and 81.3 percent from the free-throw line. He scored in double-figures in all but three games on the season with nine 20-point games and five other games in which her scored 19 points.
Timmer was also one of the conference's most-decorated student-athletes in 2015-16 as he was named the MVC Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year and a member of the men's basketball Scholar-Athlete first team and a five-time MVC Scholar-Athlete of the week.
Joining Timmer on the preseason All-MVC second team was Milton Doyle (Loyola), Dequon Miller (Missouri State), Shaquille Morris (Wichita State) and Sean O'Brien (SIU). The first team included preseason Player of the Year Jeremy Morgan (UNI), Markis McDuffie (Wichita State), MiKyle McIntosh (Illinois State), Paris Lee (Illinois State) and Brenton Scott (Indiana State).
In addition to the preseason All-MVC teams, the league also released the results of its preseason poll. Wichita State was the favorite to take the league title this season, followed by Illinois State and UNI. Drake was selected 10 in the poll.
