Rowing Set To Host Creighton To Conclude Fall Season

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University rowing team is set to host Creighton Saturday morning, Nov. 5 in the annual fall regatta between the two rivals that takes place on the Des Moines River. The annual matchup always concludes the fall season for Drake.

This year, the Bulldogs and Bluejays will compete in two flights with 2nd novice 8+, 2nd varsity 4+, varsity 4+, 2nd varsity 8+ and varsity 8+ races in the opening flight. Following a short break, the final flight will feature 3rd novice 8+ and novice 8+ races. The varsity 4+, 2nd varsity 8+ and varsity 8+ races will be scored and the team with the most points will win the regatta's traveling trophy.

"We are excited to continue our annual fall race with the Creighton," said head coach Charlie DiSilvestro. "This is our 24th year going against them. It is a long-standing rivalry that our rowers, alumni and families always enjoy and have fun at. We are supposed to have nice weather and the water level is finally at a good level. Our goal is to retain the cup, it won't be easy, but we are excited to race."

Saturday will be the third and final fall regatta for the Bulldogs. The team's first scheduled fall event, the Head of the Des Moines, was cancelled due to unsafe water levels on the Des Moines River. Drake competed in the Head of the Rock in Rockford, Ill. and the Jayhawk Jamboree in Lawrence, Kan. Both regattas featured some of the top varsity and club rowing programs in the Midwest.
