DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University women's basketball team topped Northern Illinois, 95-86, Wednesday, Nov. 30 evening at the Knapp Center.
Drake (3-2) had four players finish with double-digits points led by senior
Lizzy Wendell (Blue Springs, Mo., who tallied a game-high 30 points and added six rebounds. Wendell's big game is the ninth 30-plus scoring performance in her career and the second this season. She has 1,980 career points to continue her climb to 2,000 career points in her outstanding career.
Freshman
Becca Hittner (Urbandale, Iowa) recorded 16 points in her impressive debut as a Bulldog. Hittner shot 6-of-7 (85.7 percent) from the floor, hit 2-of-3 three-pointers and nabbed seven rebounds.
Sophomore
Sara Rhine (Eldon, Mo.) and senior
Caitlin Ingle (Runnels, Iowa) added 19 and 13 points, respectively. Rhine surpassed the 500-point mark in the win as she now has 503 career points in her young career.
Ingle grabbed her 12
th career points/assists double-double with 11 assists. Ingle with 572 career assists needs just five more to move past former standout Kay Riek (1980-84) for second all-time in program history.
Sophomore
Sammie Bachrodt (Wichita, Kan.) just missed double-figures with nine points to go with eight rebounds. Sophomore
Nicole Miller (Walker, Iowa) chipped in six points and four assists.
Northern Illinois (4-2) was led by Cassidy Glenn and Courtney Woods who each recorded 22 points. Glenn also added 10 rebounds for a double-double. Ally Lehman had 17 points, nine rebounds and five assists.
The Bulldogs took their second-straight win after holding the Huskies 11 points below their season average. Northern Illinois, led the nation averaging 97.0 points per game, prior to facing the Bulldogs.
Drake travels to play at Green Bay on Saturday, Dec. 3 with tipoff scheduled for 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on AM Praise 940.
