Thommi Reaches Career Milestone In Volleyball’s 3-0 Loss At UNI

Senior becomes just the third Bulldog to record 1,500 career digs

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Drake University senior libero Michelle Thommi (Omaha, Neb.) recorded her 1,500th career dig in a 3-0 loss at UNI on Saturday, Nov. 5, evening in the McLeod Center. Thommi became just the third Bulldog in the program's history to reach the 1,500 career dig mark.

Despite Thommi's game-high 22 digs to give her 1,519 career digs, the Bulldogs fell by set scores of 25-16, 25-20, 25-13.

Offensively, Odessa Cody (Chicago, Ill.) had 11 kills on 25 attempts and she has now recorded 80 kills in the last eight matches for the Bulldogs. Two Panthers reached double-figure in kills with Piper Thomas notching 11 kills while Amie Held had 10 to help the home team hit .261 in the win. UNI also recorded 10 aces.

UNI (19-8, 10-4 MVC) used a 10-3 run in the opening set to open up a 23-13 lead before claiming the set, 25-16. The second set was more tightly contested with Drake (14-14, 5-9 MVC) holding a 14-12 lead at one point. However, UNI countered with a 9-1 run to take a 21-15 lead. The Bulldogs pulled back within four point late, but could get no closer as UNI took the set, 25-20.

UNI opened the third set with a 14-6 lead that ballooned to a 20-11 lead to allow UNI to cruise to the easy 25-13 win to take the match, 3-0.

The Bulldogs return home to continue their MVC season on Friday, Nov. 11, against Bradley at 5 p.m. followed by a Nov. 12 contest against Loyola at 7 p.m.
