SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Drake University women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to Missouri State on Saturday morning at the Cooper Tennis Complex.

The Bears jumped out to a 2-0 lead by taking the doubles point and then winning No. 6 singles.

Freshman Joely Lomas defeated Ekaterina Donetskova 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 5 spot to put the Bulldogs on the board. MSU went up 3-1 with a win on court one, but Drake came back to tie it up 3-3 with victories on courts two and three. Sophomore Tess Herder cruised past Anelisse Torrico, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3, while senior Maddie Johnson won her first set 7-5 then dominated the second set 6-1, to beat Miranda Poile at No. 2.

The decisive match point came down to court four between DU's Summer Brills and MSU's Faty Khamissi. Khamissi took the first set 6-4 and Brills forced a third set with a 6-4 second set win. Brill managed to take a 5-2 lead and had multiple match points, but Khamissi battled back and won five consecutive games to win the third set 7-5.

The Bulldogs will have a quick turnaround as they travel to No. 22 Wichita State on Sunday.
