COMO, Italy – The Drake University women's basketball team defeated the Italian Select team, 88-71, Monday evening in the final game of its summer trip through Italy.
 
Senior Lizzy Wendell scored a team-high 23 points and four other Bulldogs joined Wendell in double figure points. Redshirt sophomore Becca Jonas had 16 points and eight rebounds. Freshmen Becca Hittner added 12 points and four rebounds while sophomores Sammie Bachrodt and Nicole Miller scored 12 and 11 points, respectively.
 
Earlier in the day, the group had a chance to take a boat across beautiful Lake Como to the resort, Bellagio. During the boat tour our guide pointed out many historical buildings and beautiful and famous lakeside villas. One of those villas belongs to actor George Clooney and three others were used as sets for Hollywood movies such as the new Star Wars The Force Awakens, Oceans Twelve, Casino Royale and the Da Vinci Code. Once at Bellagio, the group had a chance to walk around the quaint resort town and shop and eat before heading back to Como.
 
Sunday was a busy day of travel as the group left San Marino early in the morning and drove several hours to Tronchetto Marina to board taxi boats for Venice. The famous city is located on numerous small islands in the Venetian Lagoon. The boat taxis cruised into "City of Bridges" down the Grand Canal and the view was amazing with many churches, hotels and villas. The group then toured Piazza San Marco (St. Mark's Square), including a stop in the church of St. Mark followed by an hour long walk through the narrow city streets over the many bridges and canals.
 
Following Venice, we boarded our buses and headed to Lake Como, where we arrived late Sunday evening. Lake Como is the final stop of our trip. Tuesday the group will head just over the border to Lugano, Switzerland, where they will spend a few hours sightseeing and shopping. The group is scheduled to depart home to the United States on Wednesday morning.
