NORMAL, Ill. – The Drake University women's tennis team took home five titles at the Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships Monday in Normal, Ill.
The Bulldogs began the day with a pair of doubles championships.
Kenya Williams and
Liza Petushkova beat Evansville's Pentsova/Tkachenko 8-6 to claim the Flight 2 doubles title.
Joely Lomas and
Mela Jaglarz brought home the Flight 3 doubles title with their 8-6 victory over Stoney Brook's Carrion/Pam. Seniors
Summer Brills and
Tess Herder finished in third-place with their 8-3 victory over Evansville's Soldatou/Yamada.
Drake went on to win three of the seven singles draws. Brills cruised past Valpo's Jelena Vujanic 6-1, 6-2 to win the Flight 2 championship. Lomas took home the Flight 3 title after defeating Missouri State's Phoebe Boeschen 6-4, 6-4. Petushkova won the team's final individual title by beating Evansville's Nicoli Pereira 6-3, 6-0 in the Flight 5 championship match.
Freshman
Megan Webb finished runner-up in the Flight 6 draw after falling to Evansville's Theodora Soldatou, 6-2, 6-4.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Oct. 19 when they travel to Lawrence, Kan. for the ITA Central Regional Championships.
