DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake women's basketball team cruised to a 98-46 victory over Bradley on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 12, at the Knapp Center in front of 3,219 fans. The victory improved Drake's record to 13-0 in Missouri Valley Conference play to set the best-ever start to league play in MVC history.
Drake (20-4, 13-0 MVC) earned its 14
th-straight win as all 10 available players scored for the second-straight game. The Bulldogs shot 50 percent from both the field (36-of-72) and three-point arch (14-of-28). Every Bulldog scored a total of four points or more and logged at least 11 minutes of playing time.
The Bulldogs were led by senior
Lizzy Wendell (Blue Springs, Mo.) who finished with a game-high 20 points on a 6-of-13 shooting performance and added four rebounds, four assists and two steals. Senior
Caitlin Ingle (Runnells, Iowa), who was just shy of a double-double, added a game-high seven assists in addition to her 16 points.
Freshman
Becca Hittner (Urbandale, Iowa) followed with 15 points and added five rebounds. Redshirt sophomore
Becca Jonas (Independence, Mo.) and freshman
Brenni Rose (Shawnee, Kan.) each contributed 10 points and four rebounds, respectively, to the Bulldog win. Off the opening jump ball, Jonas scored on a breakaway layup just four seconds into the game off a deep home run pass by Ingle as Drake never trailed in the game and led by as many as 53 points.
As a team, the Bulldogs forced 28 points off of turnovers and had 42 total rebounds, 23 of which were pulled down in the first half of the game. Drake also benefited from 14 steals and 24 total assists.
Bradley (9-15, 5-8 MVC) was led by Vanessa Markert with 10 points while Chelsea Brackmann led the Braves with a game-high of eight rebounds
Following Sunday's game, Drake hits the road for its final regular season road trip with games at Indiana State on Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. and at Loyola on Feb. 19 at 1 p.m.
