IOWA CITY, Iowa – After falling behind 2-0, the Drake University men's tennis tallied four-straight points to beat in-state foe Iowa, 4-3, for the sixth consecutive year on Friday night.
The Bulldogs improved to 4-1, while the Hawkeyes settled to 4-2.
Iowa took a 2-0 lead after winning the doubles point and earning a win at No. 6 singles.
Drake's
Ben Stride put the Bulldogs on the board with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Kareem Allaf at No. 3.
Vinny Gillespie tied the match at 2-2 after his straight sets win, 7-5, 6-1, over Josh Silverstein at No. 1.
After dropping the first set 7-5,
Tom Hands bounced back to cruise past Jonas Larsen, 6-3, 6-0 in the final two sets and give Drake a 3-2 lead.
Calum MacGeoch had a tough first set, losing 6-0, but responded to win the next two sets, 6-3, 7-6 to clinch the match for the Bulldogs.
Drake will close out its weekend with a trip to Purdue on Sunday. First serve is set for 11 a.m. EST.
