The 2016-17 season featured many thrilling moments and accomplishments for Drake athletics. From conference titles, outstanding team and individual accomplishments, postseason appearances and significant regular season victories, the Bulldogs had plenty to celebrate as they look forward to the upcoming season. Before embarking on 2017-18, www.GoDrakeBulldogs.com will take a look back at the top 10 moments of the 2016-17 throughout the months of June and July.
 
The No. 3 moment of the 2016-17 season comes from track and field and cross country team member Reed Fischer's decorated career at Drake coming to a close with an accomplishment that has been one in the making; breaking the school record for the 5,000 meter-run. Fischer shattered the 39-year old record on the Blue Oval during the 2017 Drake Relays Presented by Hy-Vee with an outstanding time of 13:48.32. Crossing the finish line not only gave Fischer a Relays first-place title, but also placed him among the top 20 events times in Division I athletics this year.
 
 
Fischer advanced to the MVC Outdoor Championships held May 12-14 in Wichita, Kan. On the first day of competition, Fischer added to his burgeoning legacy by winning the 10,000 meter-run with a time of 30:17.82, nearly two seconds in front of second place finisher SIU's Josh Maier. This win is the first for Drake since 2000 and qualified Fischer for the field at the NCAA West Preliminaries.

Crossing the finish line with a time of 29:57.37 and placing eighth, Fischer easily advanced to the NCAA Championships, his second-straight appearance where he finished 17^th in the 10,000 meters last year. Fischer returned to the oval in attempts to qualify for the NCAA Championships in the 5,000 meter-run. However, he came up short with a 27^th place finish in 14:47.07.
 
Fischer is set to compete in the 10,000 meters at the NCAA Championships on Wednesday, June 7 at Hayward Field.
