Drake University senior Nick Norton (Bloomington, Ill.) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Basketball Newcomer of the Week, the league announced Monday, Dec. 17. The honor is Norton's second MVC Newcomer of the Week award and his third weekly MVC honor of the season.
 
The graduate transfer from UAB had 11 points, 10 assists and six rebounds in 38 minutes against Iowa State Saturday in the Hy-Vee Classic. His second double-figure assist performance of the season was tempered by no turnovers as well as he accounted for 10 of the team's 22 assists on an afternoon where 75.6 percent of the team's baskets were assisted.
 
Norton has a 32-to-3 assist-to-turnover ratio in the last four games while averaging 15.3 points per game during that span,
 
He and the Bulldogs return to action Monday evening when they host SIUE at the Knapp Center for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
