Football Hosts Annual Blue-White Spring Game, Saturday

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University football team hosts its annual Blue-White spring game on Saturday, April 21 at Drake Stadium. The contest marks the end of the Bulldogs' spring practice and is set to begin at 1 p.m.

Saturday's game will pit the defense and offense against each other rather than separating into two full, distinct rosters. That decision was a by-product of the staff being able to maximize the team's practice time and has proved beneficial in getting as many repetitions as possible.

The defense will be awarded two points for a stop on downs, a total of three points for a three-and-out, five points for a turnover and 11 points for a defensive touchdown. The offense can get on the board via a touchdown or a field goal and can earn one point for a first down and a point for a play of 20-plus yards.

Each team can earn additional points through special teams competitions that will occur at the end of the first, second and third quarters.

The Bulldogs will play four five-minute quarters with a hurry-up situation following the first three quarters.

Following Saturday's Blue-White game, the Bulldogs will resume offseason workouts as they prepare for the upcoming 2018 season. Drake opens the 2018 season on Sept. 1 when it hosts William Jewell for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
