DES MOINES, Iowa – The previously announced men's invitational 100 meters got even better today as
Blake Boldon, the Franklin P. Johnson Director of the Drake Relays, announced two new competitors recently added to the field for the 2018 Drake Relays presented by Hy-Vee.
C.J. Ujah and Ameer Webb will race a field that includes Andre De Grasse, Isiah Young, Mike Rodgers, Jak Ali Harvey, Kemar Hyman and Brandon Carnes.
Of the eight competitors, seven have shattered the 10-second mark and seven have made Olympic appearances with De Grasse owning three Olympic medals.
"We've never had a sub-10 second 100 meters at the Drake Relays and we're proud to be bringing seven athletes who are more than capable of achieving that to Drake Stadium," Boldon said.
Ujah was the 2017 Diamond League champion in the event and owns a personal best of 9.96 and a 4x100-meter relay World Championship for his native Great Britain in 2017. He is the youngest British sprinter to finish faster than 10 seconds.
Ameer Webb was fifth in the 200 meters at the 2017 World Championships and a 200-meter semifinalist at the 2016 Olympics and the 2017 USA Champion in the event. In the 100 meters, he has finished as fast as 9.94.
The pair of additions replaces the previously announced Jarrion Lawson and BeeJay Lee who pulled out of the competition.
