FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. - Drake University sophomore Maximilian Fridrich (Salzburg, Austria) won the men's 4-mile race at the annual Oz Memorial, Friday, Sept. 7. The annual event, hosted by the University of Minnesota honors former Drake head coach Gary Osborn.
Fridrich recorded a time of 20:09.6 to win the 4-mile race by nearly 10 seconds against a 40-runner field. He was one of three Bulldogs to finish in the top 10 as Drake finished second in the team standings behind the hosts, Minnesota.
Kyle Brandt (Maple Grove, Minn.) crossed the finish line in seventh place in 20:46.7 while Joshua Yeager (Center Point, Iowa) was eighth in 20:49.1.
Drake's women finish third in the team standings behind Minnesota and Minnesota State. Olivia Rogers (Boulder, Colo.) was Drake's top finisher in 20th place in 23:59.6 on the six-kilometer course. MyKaela Cole (Urbandale, Iowa) trailed closely in 21st place. Mille Bretl (Milwaukee, Wis.), Drake's top finisher a week ago, was 34th.
The Bulldogs will take the next two weeks to train before returning to Minnesota Sept. 29 for the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational.
