Overseas Bulldogs Update - Jan. 18

An update on some of the top performances Drake standouts playing professional across the globe


           The Drake University men's basketball program has a long and storied tradition of preparing players for long and prosperous basketball careers overseas in international competition. Currently, nearly a dozen Bulldogs are competing across the globe. Here are some of the top performances by former Drake standouts in the last week courtesy of Eurobasket.com
 
  • Josh Young (6'1''-G-88, graduated '10, plays pro in Germany) led Rasta Vechta to a victory over the closely-ranked Brose Baskets (10-5) 85-67 in the German BBL on Saturday night. He was MVP of the game. Young recorded 19 points and had 3 steals in 20 minutes. Rasta Vechta (11-5) is fourth in the BBL. It was his team's eighth consecutive victory in a row. Young is averaging 11.6ppg, 2.0rpg and 2.9apg.
     
  • Ben Simons (6'8''-F-91, graduated '13, plays in Spain) could not help Rio Natura Monbus Obradoiro CAB (6-10) in their last game. Despite Simons' good performance, Rio Natura Monbus Obradoiro CAB was edged 84-83 on the road by the lower-ranked (#14) Baloncesto Fuenlabrada. He was the second best scorer with 14 points. Simons is averaging 10.3ppg, 2.3rpg and 1.1apg in 11 games he played so far. 
     
  • Reed Timmer (6'1''-PG-95, graduated '18, currently in Germany), who plays in the German ProA (second division) was not able to help Walter Tigers Tuebingen (7-11) in their game last Friday. Despite Timmer's very good performance, Walter Tigers Tuebingen was edged 84-83 on the opponent's court by the much higher-ranked Rostock (#3). He was the second best scorer with 17 points. Timmer also added 7 rebounds in 29 minutes. Timmer has individually averages 17.3ppg, 3.4rpg and 3.1apg. 
     
  • Joshua Young (6'1''-G-88, graduated '10, plays in Germany) was not able to help Rasta Vechta secure the victory in their last game against Ratiopharm Ulm (5-5) in the German BBL. He scored 7 points in 18 minutes. Rasta Vechta was edged out (81-80) in Ulm by the lower-ranked Ratiopharm (#9). It is still an early in the season and there is plenty of time to turn the season around. Young has relatively good stats this year, averaging 11.4ppg, 2.0rpg and 2.5apg.
     
  • Jacob Enevold (7'1''-F-94, graduated '17, plays pro in Denmark) was not able to secure a victory for Svendborg (10-5) in their last game. Despite his good performance the fourth-placed Svendborg (10-5) was crushed 102-80 in Horsens by the second-ranked Horsens IC in the ProA group. Jensen scored 10 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. This year Jensen averages 9.4ppg, 5.9rpg and 1.1bpg in 15 games. 
     
  • Experienced AJ Calvin (6'7''-F-85, graduated '07, plays pro in Germany) couldn't help ETB Wohnbau (3-13) in their game against SC Rist Wedel (11-5) in the German ProB (third division). He recorded 6 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 22 minutes. The 12th-placed ETB Wohnbau (3-13) was crushed 79-56 in Wedel by the leading SC Rist in the North group. It was ETB Wohnbau's eighth consecutive loss in a row. Calvin has relatively good stats this season 14.9ppg, 6.1rpg, 1.6apg and 1.5spg.
