DES MOINES, Iowa – Creighton edged the Drake women's tennis team, 4-3, Saturday afternoon at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
 
Drake (0-3) started its home opener with a 6-3 victory by Liza Petushkova (Moscow, Russia)/Kenya Williams (Lauderhill, Fla.) in the No. 1 doubles match. However, Creighton (1-2) rallied with wins in the No. 3 and No. 2 matches, respectively, to claim the doubles point.
 
The Bluejays went up 2-0 after they won the No. 6 singles match, but Petushkova and Daria Walczak (Lodz, Poland) evened the match at 2-2 with victories in the No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches, respectively. However, Claire Embree defeated Williams 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 5 match and Erin Epperson held off a charge by Sophia Haleas (Clarendon, Ill.) 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 in the No. 4 match for the victory.
 
Drake continues its opening weekend at the Roger Knapp Center with matches Sunday against South Dakota and Augustana (S.D.) at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
