IOWA CITY, Iowa - Five top-five performances and two times that rank in the top-10 all-time in the 3,000 meters highlighted the Drake University track and field team's afternoon at the Black & Gold Premier hosted by the University of Iowa.
The men's 3,000 meters saw
Kevin Kelly (Kilcok, Ireland) win the event in 8:14.59, a personal best time that ranks as the fifth-fastest in Drake history. Joshua Yeager (Center Point, Iowa) followed on Kelly's shoulder in second at 8:17.32, the seventh-fastest time in the Bulldog record book.
Kyle Brandt (Maple Grove, Minn.) finished seven seconds later in fourth place with a personal best time of 8:24.77.
The women's 3,000 meters was equally fruitful for the Bulldogs with
Rachel Selva (Columbia, Mo.) shaving more than 30 seconds off her previous best to win the event in 10:14.83.
Lindsey Rowatt (Lenexa, Kan.) was fifth in 10:35.67.
In the sprints, Viktor Peka (Ogidi, Nigeria) was third in the 60 meters in 6.96 and fourth in the 200 meters in 21.95.
Sophia Jackson (Corinth, Texas) took third in the women's 60 meters in 7.81.
The throws yielded three top-10 finishes as
Lexie Chapman (Pekin, Ill.) was third in the women's weight throw with a toss of 57-10.5 (17.64m), one of the top throws in school history, while
Joey Harkins (Earlham, Iowa) was eighth in the men's event.
The Bulldogs continue their indoor season next weekend at the annual Husker Invite in Lincoln, Neb.
