The Drake University men's basketball program has a long and storied tradition of preparing players for long and prosperous basketball careers overseas in international competition. Currently, nearly a dozen Bulldogs are competing across the globe. Here are some of the top performances by former Drake standouts in the last week courtesy of Eurobasket.com
#1. Joshua Young (Germany) led Rasta Vechta to a victory against the 11th ranked BBC Bayreuth (9-9) 86-81 in the German BBL in Sunday night's game. He scored 14 points in 21 minutes. Rasta Vechta (15-5) is currently in third place in the BBL. It was his team's 12th consecutive victory, after starting the season at 3-5. Young is averaging 11.6ppg, 2.1rpg, 3.1apg and 1.2spg in 16 games.
#2. Gary Ricks (Mexico) led Abejas de Guanajuato to a victory over the seventh-ranked Angeles (12-23) 79-63 in the Mexican LNBP (second division) last Sunday. Ricks was MVP of the game. He scored 24 points, had 7 rebounds and dished out 4 assists. Abejas de Guanajuato (17-20) is currently in fifth place in the South group. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory. There are only three games left until the end of the regular season, so every game will be critical. Ricks is averaging 12.6ppg, 3.5rpg and 2.4apg this season.
#3. Reed Timmer (Germany) was the main contributor in Walter Tigers Tuebingen's victory against Schalke (7-14), crushing them 95-66 in the German ProA (second division) on Saturday night. Timmer was MVP of the game. He recorded 24 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists in 28 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only Timmer's first season playing professional basketball. Walter Tigers Tuebingen (9-12) is in 12th place in the ProA. It's Timmer's first year with the team and is averaging an impressive 17.8ppg, 3.5rpg and 3.3apg in 19 games this season,
#4. Benjamin Simons (Spain) contributed to Rio Natura Monbus Obradoiro CAB's surprising victory against the fifth-ranked Valencia Basket (12-7) 94-87 in the Spanish Liga Endesa in Saturday night's game. Simons scored 6 points. Rio Natura Monbus Obradoiro CAB (9-11) is in 11th place in the Liga Endesa. This season Simons is averaging 9.3ppg and 1.9rpg.
#5. Experienced Andre Calvin, (Germany) was unable to help ETB Wohnbau (3-17) beat Itzehoe (10-10) in the German ProB (third division). He was the team's second best scorer with 9 points. Calvin also added 6 rebounds in 32 minutes, but the 12th placed ETB Wohnbau (3-17) was badly defeated 77-60 on the road by the sixth ranked Itzehoe in the North group. It was ETB Wohnbau's 12th consecutive loss. With only two games left until the end of the regular season, every game is very crucial. It's Calvin's first season with the team. He is averaging an impressive 15.3ppg, 6.1rpg, 1.4apg and 1.6spg in 18 games this season.
#6. Jacob Jensen (Denmark) was unable to help Svendborg in their game against Randers in the Danish BasketLigaen. He did not beat the league record on Wednesday evening. Jensen recorded 2 points, while his team was edged out in a 72-69 loss. This season, Jensen is averaging 8.9ppg and 5.7rpg.
