SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association announced Thursday that redshirt junior
Sara Rhine (Eldon, Mo.) of the Drake University women's basketball team has been named to the 10-player watch list for the 2019 Katrina McClain Award.
Rhine was named to the preseason watch list in late October for the McClain Award, which is named after Katrina McClain, the two-time All-American and 1987 National Player of the Year at Georgia, and is awarded to the nation's top power forward.
Rhine has played in each of Drake's 23 games this season and scored in double-digits in every game. The 6-foot-1 forward is the MVC's active leader with 21 double-doubles, including 10 this season, and is shooting a league-high 61.0 percent from the floor. Rhine ranks second in the Valley in scoring at 19.6 points per game behind only her teammate,
Becca Hittner, and Rhine ranks second in rebounding at 8.5.
A committee will narrow the list to five finalists in early March, and the winner will be determined by Ms. McClain-Pittman and the Hall of Fame committee to be revealed as part of the WBCA Convention at the 2019 Women's Basketball Final Four.
