ST. LOUIS – Becca Hittner (Urbandale, Iowa) of the Drake University women's basketball team is the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week for the first time this season, the MVC office announced Monday, Feb. 4.
In two games, Hittner averaged 33.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 blocks per game while shooting 57.9 percent (22-of-38) from the floor and 79.2 percent from the free throw line.
She started the weekend against Missouri State with a career-high 37 points on 12-of-23 shooting, adding eight rebounds, three assists and two blocks. She followed that great performance with an impressive 30 points, on 10-of-15 shooting, to go with seven rebounds, one assist and one block in the SIU win.
Hittner, who is the league's top scorer at 19.7 points per game, is the first Bulldog with back-to-back 30-plus games since Jan Jensen in 1991-92. Her three 30-plus games this season lead the MVC and are the most for a Drake player since Lizzy Wendell had four during the 2016-17 season. It is the second career MVC Player of the Week for Hittner and the seventh this year for a Drake player. Hittner's teammate
Sara Rhine (Eldon, Mo.) has been named player of the week six times.
Drake visits Valparaiso Friday night for a 5 p.m. game on ESPN+.
