The Drake University cross country and track & field teams held their annual awards banquet Tuesday night to honor the team's top student-athletes for their athletic and academic accomplishments. The team also honored 13 seniors for their contributions to the program.

Mary Young was honored as Athlete of the Year for her accomplishments running sprints and hurdles. Sophomore Kundai Maguranyanga was named the men's Athlete of the Year after being named MVC Freshman of the Year in the 2018 outdoor season.

John Freeman and Olivia Rogers were awarded for holding the top grade point averages in the cross country program, and Victoria Coombe and Josh Yeager were recognized for their academic achievement on the track team. Coombe and Yeager were also named "Bulldog" of the Year for being the top overall student-athletes.

Juniors Sophie Jackson and Max Harlan were named the Most Improved athletes. Jackson placed second in the 100m at the 2018 Jim Duncan Invitational, and Harlan took second in the javelin throw at the 2018 Jim Duncan Invitational and the MVC Outdoor Championships. Joe Romain was awarded for his community service and Victoria Coombe was also recognized for community service for her third award of the evening.

Four athletes were also recognized for setting new school records this season. Lexie Chapman, who broke the school records in the shot put and weight throw, Kevin Kelly who ran the fastest mile in school history, Taryn Rolle set a new school-best triple jump performance, and Malik Metivier for his record-setting time in the 400m hurdles.

13 seniors were also honored for their time with the team.

Women's: Lexie Chapman, Victoria Coombe, Meghan Kearney, and Christina LeMonyon

Men's: Alec Bognar Aaron Chier, John Freeman, Cole Friedman, Kevin Kelly, Forest Moses, Simon Perrotin, Jannick Schuller and Josh Yeager

The Bulldogs' track and field teams will return to action March 29 for the Jim Duncan Invitational in Drake Stadium.
