DES MOINES, Iowa – Drake University senior
Lexie Chapman continued her assault on the Drake track and field record books as she won the shot put and discus on the final day of the Jim Duncan Invitational Saturday at Drake Stadium.
Both of her winning throws were the second best in program history in each event as she threw 47-4.5 (14.44m) in the shot put and 155-7 (47.43m) in the discus.
Chapman's titles were part of nine first-place finishes Saturday by the Bulldogs in cold and windy conditions on the Blue Oval in the team's outdoor season opener.
Victoria Coombe also won a pair of events as she swept the hurdles with a 15.24 finish in the 100-meter hurdles and a 1:04.46 time in the 400-meter hurdles.
The women also took home first-place finishes in the 100 meters and 800 meters with Keaton Kestor crossing in 12.25 in the 100 meters and
Meghan Kearney winning the 800 meters in 2:24.73.
The Drake men opened the day by winning the 4x100-meter relay in 42.56 followed by
Angelo Romagna winning the 400-meter hurdles in 56.98.
Xavier Lechleitner started his outdoor season strong as well with a win in a tactical 800 meters in 2:00.98.
The meet, which also featured teams from UNI and North Dakota was scored as well with the Bulldogs finishing second behind UNI in both the men's and women's standings.
The Bulldogs continue their outdoor season in two weeks when they travel to Arkansas for the John McDonnell Invitational.
