Dolph Pulliam Enshrined In MVC Hall of Fame

Drake legend adds another honor to his storied legacy

Drake University legend Dolph Pulliam added another tremendous honor to his storied legacy Friday morning when the Missouri Valley Conference formally inducted him into its Hall of Fame during the league's annual Hall of Fame Breakfast.

Pulliam and his many accomplishments need no introduction to Bulldog fans as he remains one of the most beloved and cherished student-athletes in Drake University history.

Pulliam was a captain and the emotional leader of Drake's 1969 Final Four team whose jersey already hangs from the rafters of the Knapp Center. Known nationwide for his defensive tenacity, Pulliam was one of the most celebrated apostles of Coach Maury John's 'Belly-Button Defense' that help launch the Bulldogs into the Final Four.

Pulliam bypassed professional sports to remain in Des Moines where became active in the community while becoming the first African-American television broadcaster in Iowa. In 1989, he became director of athletic marketing at Drake before moving into a position as director of community outreach and development before retiring in 2014. He also served as an analyst on Drake basketball broadcasts for many years and remains a faithful ambassador and representative of Drake University.

Honored with Drake's "Double D" Award in 2011 for his tremendous success in his field and impact he has made in the community, Pulliam was inducted into the state of Iowa African-American Hall of Fame in 2006.
