Haley Bush Named MVC Freshman of the Week

Waukee native notched 26 kills in the win over Eastern Illinois.

Drake University freshman and Waukee, Iowa, native Haley Bush has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Volleyball Freshman of the Week, the league announced Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Bush led Drake with 48 kills in the Bulldogs' opening weekend while hitting .272 in 12 total sets.  The freshman added three aces and 12 total blocks to help the Bulldogs go 3-1 to open the season. 

She closed the weekend with a staggering 26 kills in the four-set win over Eastern Illinois and added 10 digs for her second-straight double-double. Those 26 kills were the most by a Bulldog in a match since the 2015 season.

Bush opened the weekend with back-to-back 11-kill performances.

She and the Bulldogs return to action this week for the Drake Invitational at the Knapp Center. The team begins the two-day tournament against Eastern Washington Friday at 7 p.m. followed by Saturday matches against Milwaukee (11 a.m.) and Saint Louis (5 p.m.).
