Men’s Basketball Aims To Finish Non-Conference Season Unblemished

Bulldogs have won 23-straight non-conference home games

The Drake University men's basketball team aims to finish its non-conference season undefeated when it hosts North Dakota Tuesday evening. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. at the Knapp Center on Mediacom MC22 and ESPN+

The Bulldogs are 8-0 on the season to match the best start in school history, also achieved by the 1970-71 team. Drake's eight wins are tied for the most in the nation and the Bulldogs are one of three 8-0 teams.

North Dakota travels to Des Moines at 1-7 on the season after dropping a weekend series at SIU. Filip Rebraca has led the team with 17.6 points per game on 57.3 percent shooting with 6.4 rebounds per out as well.

Drake is coming off a 111-point showing against Chicago State, its most in a regulation-length game against a Division I foe since Jan. 22, 1980. All eight of Drake's wins have come by double-digits to mark the first time Drake has won eight-straight games by double-digits.

The Bulldogs have also scored 80 or more points in six of their eight games to average 86.2 points per game, the 24th best average in the nation. Drake's average margin of victory of 25.6 points ranks 14th.

That offense has been fueled by 53.4 percent shooting, the eighth best mark in the nation. Drake has shot 50 percent or better in five of the last six games and 47 percent in the lone game it did not shot 50 percent or better.

Drake has had a different leading scorer in six of its eight wins. D.J. Wilkins and Shanquan Hemphill are the only two to lead Drake in scoring more than once. The pair are each averaging double figures on the season at 13.5 and 11.5 points per game, respectively, to join Roman Penn at 12.1 points per game among the Bulldogs' leaders. Penn is also among the national leaders in assists at 6.5 per game to rank 21st nationally.

Following Tuesday's game, the Bulldogs will have a brief holiday break before beginning Missouri Valley Conference play Dec. 27 at Indiana State.
