The Drake University men's and women's track and field teams head to Ames, Iowa, to compete in the Iowa State Classic Friday, Feb. 14 and Saturday, Feb. 15 at the Lied Rec Center. 

The Bulldogs are sending more than 30 student-athletes who will compete against seven of the top 25 teams in the country -- No. 2 LSU, No. 6 Indiana, No. 10 Iowa State, No. 13 Baylor, No. 15 Kentucky, No. 19 Kansas, and No. 25 Minnesota. 

Drake returns to the track six days after the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational, where the teams recorded two school records and numerous personal bests.  

Newcomers Maja Gebauer and Yinka Mary Ajayi are coming off a strong weekend. Gebauer broke her own school record in pole vault by recording a clearance of 13-0.75 (3.98m), which added more than seven inches to her previous record. For her efforts, she was named the MVC Women's Field Athlete of the Week.

Ajayi also broke the school record in the 200-meter race for the third time this season. She initially set the record Jan. 18, broke it a week later (Jan. 25) and once again on Saturday, Feb. 8. She recorded a time of 24.36 in the event, shedding eight-hundredths of a second off her previous record. She is set to compete in the 400 meters in Ames.
 
In the men's 400 meters, Aobakwe Malau recorded the fastest time on the season for the Bulldogs last weekend, with a time of 50.06. He is set to compete in both the 200 and 400-meter events this weekend. 

Field events are set to start at noon on both Friday and Saturday, with running events also anticipated to start at noon.
