DES MOINES – The Drake University women's tennis team hosts a pair of duals this weekend at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center. The Bulldogs face North Dakota on Friday at noon before challenging Kansas City on Sunday at 11 a.m.
Drake will look to build off last weekend's performance when it lost to Iowa State before rebounding for wins against Milwaukee and Gustavus Adolphus to improve its record to 4-4 this season. The Bulldogs were recognized for their efforts, sweeping the Missouri Valley Conference's weekly awards.
Liza Petushkova earned the MVC Singles Player of the Week honor after going 3-0 over the weekend. Petushkova and
Joely Lomas were tabbed the MVC Doubles Team of the Week for the third time this season after notching another impressive win.
Drake's top doubles duo defeated the No. 45 pair in the country, Thasaporn Naklo and Christin Hsieh of Iowa State, 7-6 (14-12).
The Bulldogs will aim to keep their momentum rolling this weekend.
Drake will test itself first against North Dakota (3-3). While the Fighting Hawks have won three matches in a row, they are 0-2 on the road this season. As a team, North Dakota is 21-15 (.583) in singles play this year and 8-7 (.533) in doubles action.
On Sunday, Drake welcomes Kansas City (1-1). The Roos are 5-14 (.263) in singles play and 3-6 (.333) in doubles play on the year. The Bulldogs will look to avenge last year's 4-3 loss at Kansas City.
