Senior Xavier Lechleitner, a member of the Drake University cross country and track & field teams is one of two featured student-athletes in the MVC Scholar-Athlete Spotlight, presented by Enterprise Bank and Trust Company, Commissioner Doug Elgin announced today.  

Lechleitner has a 3.43 GPA in marketing and won the 800-meters at the Jim Duncan Invitational and was a member of the 4x400-meter relay that placed third last season. He also finished eighth in the John McDonnell Invitational and was a member of the DMR placing second at the Kansas Relays as well as posting a sixth place finish in the 800-meters.

Last season, he finished ninth, 11th, and eighth in the 800-meters, 1500-meters, and 4x400-meters respectively at the MVC Championship.

The senior is the president of the Student Leadership Advisory Panel, which develops and promotes leadership in and around the Drake community. He volunteers extensively with Freedom For Youth, which empowers youth across Iowa to discover their God-given talents, and lead transformed lives. Through that organization he led a trip to Alaska with youth in the program.

To qualify for the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Spotlight, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
