Fogg Takes Fourth at NCAA Cross Country Regional

At the NCAA Division I Midwest Regional Championships the Drake Bulldogs showed why the future is bright for head coach Jay Koloseus' cross country program. Despite 36 degrees and 22 mph winds with the occasional flurry in Iowa City, Iowa, several Bulldogs set career best marks in a fast and frenzied men's 10k race.

The Bulldog men finished seventh overall with 236 points, the highest finish in school history at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships. Drake was led by a 4th place finish from senior Adam Fogg who crossed the finish line with a new career-best in the 10k at 30:24.45. Also setting a new career-best by over two minutes was junior Isaac Basten, who finished in 19th place, with a time of 30:46.86. Basten's previous best was 32:53.4. Both Fogg and Basten eclipsed the previous course record of 30:52, and a remarkable 22 athletes finished ahead of that mark in blistering race.

Competing in their first collegiate 10k races, Drake's Aziz Jdapi and Enzo Marie finished back to back in 31:42.57 (56th place) and 31:42.80 (57th place) respectively, and Jack Zettl ran 32:32.58 (100th place).
Connor Visnic (33:12.52, 140th place) and Pur Biel  (33:19.34, 146th place) rounded out Drake's competitors.

Iowa State's Wesley Kiptoo set the new course record with a race of 30:17.81 and Oklahoma State took the team crown with 43 points.

In the women's 6K, Drake finished 19 out of 32 teams with 515 points. The 19th place finish is the best finish on the women's side in eight seasons dating back to a 17th place finish in 2013. The Bulldogs were led by Brooke Mullins with a 51st place finish.

Mullins, a sophomore from Queensland, Australia, would likely have finished the race higher had she not been spiked in the foot near the 4k mark. Despite a torn and bloody shoe, Mullins finished the race in at 21:40.53.

Three Bulldogs, Tyla Lumly (21:52.48, 71st place), Emilie Meyer (22:24.68, 106th place) and Anna Knueve (23:33.09, 180th place), ran their best race of the year to close out the 2021 fall season.

Also competing for Drake were Anastasia Kirillov (22:36.60, 125th place), Maia Italia (23:18.31, 168th place) and Bella Evan-Cook (24:33.71, 210th place).

Iowa State's Cailie Logue took the individual title at 20:45.08 and Minnesota garnered the team crown with 45 points.
