The Drake University softball team has signed Sami Miller (Mason City, IA) and Rachel Chambers (Marble Rock, IA) to National Letters of Intent for the 2022-23 season, Drake head softball coach
Rich Calvert announced November 19.
"The most important aspect in the recruiting process is finding quality student-athletes that represent Drake softball both on and off the field," said Calvert. "We feel we have found that in this 2022 class that will have big shoes to fill replacing a strong senior class."
Miller, who will transfer to Drake from Des Moines Area Community College, was a standout in multiple sports for Mason City High School. Last season at DMACC, Miller earned 2
nd team All-Regional honors as a utility player, and helped lead her team to a 52-14 record and seventh-consecutive trip to the NJCAA Division II Softball Championship. Miller will have three years of eligibility as a Bulldog.
Chambers is a multi-sport athlete and shortstop on the softball diamond for Charles City High School. As a junior, Chambers was third in home runs (19) and fifth in RBI's (64) in class 4A. In 2021, Chambers was selected as 2
nd team All-State, and is a member of the Eastern Iowa All-Stars.
"Sami and Rachel each have outstanding characteristics, a great passion for the game, and excel in the classroom," said Calvert. "They both come from programs that have achieved great success during their time. We look forward to seeing them develop over the next couple of years."
