Adam Fogg, a Drake school record holder, Missouri Valley Conference Champion and the first Bulldog to break the 4-minute mark in the mile will compete at the NCAA Indoor Championship this weekend in Fayetteville, Ark.
Fogg, who qualified for the championship field in mile, will compete in the semifinal heats of the event Friday, March. 12 at 2 p.m. The finals are slated for Saturday at 2 p.m.
Fogg is the first Drake student-athlete to compete at the NCAA Indoor Championship since 2013 when Isaac Twombly earned All-America honors in the weight throw.
Qualifying for the NCAA Championship field is the latest accomplishment by the Melbourne, Australia native. Earlier this season he became the first Drake University student-athlete to break the 4-minute mark in the mile with a time of 3:59.03 to shatter a school record he already owned. He also ran a sub 4-minute mile in his next competition and is only the 75
th Australian to break the 4-minute mark in the event.
At last month's Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championship, Fogg stretched out to compete in the 3,000 meters where he won the event in a meet record time of 8:06.09 that bettered the existing record by more than seven seconds. He also won the event by more than 20 seconds and his own heat by 43 seconds.
Last weekend, he also competed at the MVC Cross Country Championship where he earned a runner-up finish.
A potential All-American finish by Fogg would be Drake's first ever in the mile and the ninth even individual All-America honor earned by a Drake male student-athlete at the NCAA Indoor Championship.
