Grace Berg and
Maddie Monahan of the Drake University women's basketball team were both named to the All-Missouri Valley Conference First Team, the MVC announced Wednesday, March 10. The pair's first team selections headlined multiple honors for Drake on Wednesday.
Kierra Collier garnered All-MVC Honorable Mention accolades, her first All-MVC recognition. Freshman
Courtney Becker was tabbed to the MVC All-Freshman Team. Berg was also selected to the first-ever MVC All-Newcomer Team.
Berg provided an immediate impact in her first season of action for the Bulldogs starting every game. The Indianola native and transfer from Missouri is second in the MVC in scoring with a career-high 16.4 points clip, ranks third in shooting at 54.1 percent and free throw percentage at 83.1. Both shooting percentages are also career-bests. In addition, Berg averages 4.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. Berg was named the MVC Newcomer of the Week seven times this season.
Monahan is averaging a career-high 11.9 points per game while shooting 49.5 percent from the floor and a team-leading 87.5 percent from the free throw line. Her 3.9 assists per game ranks fourth in the MVC. Wednesday's All-MVC honor follows her MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team selection that was announced Tuesday.
Collier is one of the top playmakers in the MVC in her second season as a Bulldog. The former Washington transfer who debuted for the Bulldogs in 2019-20, is averaging career-high totals in scoring (11.6 ppg) and assists per game (4.0 apg). Collier has scored double-figures in 13 games this season, including pouring in a career-high 25 points against Iowa when she drilled a career-best seven three-pointers.
Becker has played in 24-of-25 games in her first season. Coming off the bench, she is averaging 3.5 points and 3.8 rebounds while shooting 42.0 percent.
The MVC specialty awards will be announced on Thursday's MVC Tournament preview show at 4 p.m. on ESPN+.
