Drake University sophomore
Busiwa Asinga advanced out of the first round of the women's 400-meter hurdles Thursday evening at the NCAA West Region Prelim in College Station, Texas.
Asinga finished third in her heat of the event to automatically qualify for Saturday's quarterfinals. She finished in 58.91 which ended up being the 16
th fastest time of the day in the event and 0.84 seconds off her personal best in the event. She will line up Saturday at 7:55 p.m. to compete for one of the 12 spots to qualify for next month's NCAA Championships.
Asinga was one of two Bulldogs competing Thursday evening. In the women's 400 meters,
Yinka Mary Ajayi finished fifth in her heat and 25
th overall with a time of 53.63. She missed advancing out of the first round by just one-tenth of a second.
The NCAA West Region Prelim continues Friday for the Bulldogs as the sophomore tandem of
Adam Fogg and
Isaac Basten race in the 1,500 meters at 5:45 p.m. The pair advanced out of the first round Wednesday and are also aiming for a top-12 finish to advance to the NCAA Championship.
