Three members of the Drake University men's track and field team are set to compete against the nation's best this week at the NCAA Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore.
Adam Fogg,
Isaac Basten and
Adam Kessler will aim to not only compete for national titles but All-America honors at the recently renovated Hayward Field.
Competition for Drake's delegation to the NCAA Championships begins Wednesday with the semifinal heat of the 1,500 meters at 7:16 p.m. CDT.
Fogg and Basten will represent Drake after assembling record-setting seasons to date. Fogg, a sophomore who earned indoor All-America honors, recently swept the Missouri Valley Conference titles in the 1,500m, 5,000m and 10,000m. He set the school record in the event at 3:38.79 at the Drake Relays while Basten owns the second-fastest time at 3:40.99. Basten's time came at the NCAA West Preliminary to help the sophomore earn a spot in the NCAA Championship field.
Fogg will race in the first of two semifinal heats while Basten is entered in the second. The top five finisher in each heat and next two fastest times advance to Friday's final at 7:11 p.m. CDT.
Kessler also competes on Wednesday as he steps into the shot put circle at 9:10 p.m. CDT. Kessler, who owns the Drake school record at 65-4 (19.91m), is in his first season as a Bulldog after transferring from SIU as a graduate transfer.
