The Drake University volleyball team won a pair of matches on its first day in tournament action at North Dakota. The Bulldogs opened the day with a 3-1 win over Green Bay and then swept the host, North Dakota, 3-0 Friday evening.
Drake (2-2) prevailed over Green Bay by set scores of 25-27, 25-19, 25-16, 25-17. In the evening contest, Drake cruised with scores of 25-18, 26-24, 26-15.
The competition was the Bulldogs' first in two weeks as the team pulled out of last weekend's tournament due to airline cancellations.
Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year
Haley Bush led Drake with 17 kills against Green Bay and 10 versus Green Bay.
Lindsey Pliapol added 14 in the morning match and eight in the evening. Bush also had 25 total digs for a pair of double-doubles.
Kacie Rewerts was a force in the middle for the Bulldogs with 15 total blocks on the day while
Emily Plock added eight blocks along with her 15 total kills. In the match against Green Bay, newcomer
Ashlynn Kuhn shined with eight kills and seven blocks.
Kylee Macke continued to lead the Bulldogs' defensive efforts on the floor with 42 total digs.
The Bulldogs continue action in North Dakota Saturday afternoon with a 1:30 p.m. match against Montana.
