Additional members of the Drake University cross country teams raced for the first time this season at the John Kurtt Invitational Saturday morning at Wartburg College.
Other members of the men's and women's cross country teams began their season Friday evening at the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa.
Drake newcomer Aziz, a native of Tunisia, claimed the men's 6-kilometer title in 18:47, beating the competition by forty-nine seconds.
Following Jday was Sheldon, Iowa native, freshman
Brendan Cain who finished ninth overall with a time of 20:16.
Rounding out the second place team finish for the Drake men were
Jack Burns finishing 11th overall in 20:22,
Connor Visnic finishing 16th in 20:53, and
Vasant Fong finishing 22nd overall in 21:15.
On the women's side, the Bulldogs were led by newcomer
Anna Knueve who finished third overall in the 5-kilometer race in 20:06.
Close behind Knueve was newcomer
Maia Italia who finished in fifth overall, covering the course in 20:29.
Rounding out the second place team finish for the women and finishing 7th-8th-9th-10th was Meghan Coulter (20:39),
Lauren Low (20:46),
Gracie Shannon (20:48), and
Alexa Andrews (20:56), respectively.
The Bulldogs return to action on Friday, Sept. 17th in Normal, Ill. for the Redbird Invitational hosted by conference foe Illinois State.
