AMES, Iowa – The Drake University track and field teams competed the Cyclone Open inside the Lied Recreation Athletic Center as student-athletes registered outstanding performances from the beginning to the end of the meet on Saturday (Jan. 22).
Adam Fogg set a new school indoor record in the men's 1 mile run with a sub-4 time of 3:56.60. Fogg's time broke the indoor track record at Iowa State.
Isaac Basten (3:59.43) ran a sub-4 time in the 1 mile for the second time this indoor season and it marked the first time ever that Drake had multiple sub-4 mile times in the same race.
In the women's 1 mile run,
Emilie Meyer turned in a time of 4:57.00 to crack the top-10 in the indoor record book.
Barbara Vrhovac was not far behind with her first career sub-5 time of 4:59.41 for 12
th on the Drake women's indoor 1-mile list.
Brooke Mullins finished third in the women's 3000 meter run with a time of 9:41.72 that moved her into fourth place in the Drake women's indoor record book. Aziz JDay won the men's 3000 meter run at 8:16.36 and settled into eighth in the Drake men's indoor record book.
Jack Zettl broke through in the 3000 meter run with a time of 8:28.29.
Yinka Mary Ajayi (24.78) and
Victor Peka (21.94) both finished in the top-8 in their respective 200 meter dashes. Ajayi's time is tops in the Missouri Valley Conference at the moment while Peka's time ranks fifth so far in the MVC.
Busiwa Asinga recorded a 400 meter dash time of 56.07 to rank seventh in Drake women's indoor track history while that time also is the best in the MVC at this point of the season.
Joseph Kruse won his section of the men's 600 yard in 1:14.89.
South Dakota State transfer
Jaymie O'Connor finished fourth (8.75) in the 60 meter hurdles finals. O'Connor continues to pace the MVC in the event.
Joey Harkins came in third in the weight throw (18.81 meters) as he continues to live in the school's indoor weight throw top-10.
Ethan Marshall set a new personal record of 17.78 meters in the weight throw for the fifth best indoor mark all-time behind
Adam Phillips, who notched 17.80 meters in his weight throw.
Austin Jentz rounded out the Bulldog men's throwers at 15.32 meters, which is eighth all-time.
Phillips wasn't done yet as he competed in the shot put and moved into seventh place in the Drake indoor record book after wrapping up at 15.32 meters.
The next indoor event for Drake track & field is the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational Feb. 4-5.
