TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Isaac Basten repeated as Missouri Valley Conference men's cross country individual champion and
Brooke Mullins was the runner-up in their respective races at the Missouri Valley Conference Championships hosted at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course in Terre Haute, Ind., on Friday (Oct. 28).
Drake men's cross country finished just four points away from the team title to claim the runner-up trophy while the Drake women's cross country team finished third for its best MVC Championships finish since 2000.
"It was a very good day for the Bulldogs," head coach
Jay Koloseus said. "Everyone who raced for us today has eligibility to back next year. Our future is extremely bright."
Brooke Mullins finished second in the women's 6K with a time of 20:50.9.
Tyla Lumley rounded out the Top 10 at 21:40.3. Mullins and Lumley both earned spots on the All-MVC First Team.
Emilie Meyer (22:16.3) in 18
th and
Barbara Vrhovac (22:26.6) in 25
th were the next two Drake runners to cross. Katherine Lawson (22:33.1) completed the scoring for Drake with a 27
th place finish.
Anna Knueve (24:14.1),
Madysen Klebenow (25:18.6) and
Lauren Low (25:49.8) rounded out the Bulldog competitors in the women's 6K.
A strong close from Basten earned him the MVC men's cross country individual title for the second consecutive year with a final time of 24:29.7. He became the fourth Drake runner to win multiple MVC titles.
Aziz Jdai was in the lead during the back half of the men's 8K before taking fourth place with a time of 24:37.5.
Enzo Marie (24:49.2) also cracked the Top 10 in eighth place as Basten, Jdai and Marie were all named to the All-MVC First Team.
Aidan Ramsey (25:02.2) and Juan Trasobares (25:02.8) finished 16
th and 17
th respectively to cap off an impressive MVC Championships debut. Ramsey and Trasobares had the best finishes amongst the true freshmen competing in the race.
Pur Biel (25:28.6),
Connor Visnic (26:04.5) and
Brendan Cain (26:29.3) rounded out the Drake competitors in the men's 8K.
The NCAA Midwest Regional will take place in Columbia, Mo., on Friday, Nov. 11.
