EVANSVILLE, Indiana -- The Drake University softball team conquered Evansville, 10-1, in its conference opener Saturday March 19.
The two teams were scheduled for a double header, but decided to only play one game Saturday due to rain in the Evansville area. The two will have a double header Sunday instead.
In the top of the third,
Macy Johnson singled up the middle allowing
Libby Ryan to score and give Drake the 1-0 lead.
Sophomore utility
Addie Lightner hit a home run with bases loaded to record four RBI's and give the Bulldogs a 5-0 lead.
The Bulldogs continued to grow their lead recording two runs in the top of the fourth and three in the fifth.
Evansville scored a lone run in the bottom of the fifth when a hit flew out to center field allowing an Ace to score.
The meeting ended in five innings due to run rule as the Bulldogs led 10-1.
Graduate pitcher
Nicole Timmons struck out eight and only allowed one hit in her five innings.
The Bulldogs return to action Sunday March 20 as they are scheudled to play at 12pm and 2pm.
